The Republican definition of “investment”
May 17, 2007 – 11:20 am
Aha! Eureka! Gadzooks! Zoinks!
While I’ve been under the impression that the Governor and State House leadership want to invest in Michigan, and Mike Bishop and the Senate Republicans want to cut Michigan down, I now see I’ve been mistaken.
Both parties want investment. We just define it differently:
“‘If we invest this money into education for Michigan’s [...]
25 Days to Victory
October 13, 2006 – 9:47 am
Just 25 days until victory on November 7!
I have worked hard to put forward a positive vision for the Michigan we can build together:
- Building on our strengths to bring good-paying, year-round jobs, creating a statewide entrepreneurial culture, investing in technology and renewable energy, and doing much, much more to promote the year-round opportunities for [...]
Two more steps on the road to the new Michigan economy
August 29, 2006 – 10:23 am
Two announcements this week helped move Michigan forward on the path to leading the country in alternative energy innovation, production, and distribution. Yesterday, Governor Granholm announced $500,000 in grants to convert 1,000 Michigan fuel pumps to bio-diesel or ethanol by 2008. And on Monday the governor announced that The Venture Michigan Fund I has $200 [...]
A little help from Senator Levin
July 11, 2006 – 11:07 am
As part of his Leelanau County activities this past Friday, Senator Carl Levin headlined a fundraiser to help raise money for the campaign. It’s not often that a senior U.S. Senator takes an active interest in a local State House raise, and I think it highlights the interest top Michigan Democrats are taking in this [...]
In Memoriam: Richard (Dick) VanderVeen
March 4, 2006 – 12:12 pm
Dick VanderVeen, the former Democratic Congressman from Grand Rapids and one-time candidate for U.S. Senate, passed away yesterday. He was 83.
Congressman VanderVeen was first elected to the U.S. House in a special election in early 1974, promising to “send Washington a message” and declaring that “the moral verdict is in” on Watergate. In November of [...]
No more excuses on Canadian trash
December 10, 2005 – 2:20 pm
The Lansing State Journal is reporting today that the federal legislation State House Republicans were counting on to block some forms of Canadian trash is stalled, and a vote isn’t expected until spring. You can read the article here:
http://www.lsj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051210/NEWS01/512100334/1150
Meanwhile, since January 1, 2005, over 5.7 million tons of Canadian and out-of-state trash has poured into [...]
