Hi Dan, I would like to bring to your attention an important website. I’ve been doing all kinds of research on the concerns of windturbines, a topic I know you’re trying to stay informed on. The companies have told us that the fish use the cement bases of the turbines and that they have no effect on marine life. I have found a website that contradicts this information. This site gives a clear analysis on the environmental impact of wind turbines in the U.K. which states that Salmon wont go within 1400 meters of a windfarm, which would devestate Ludington and Pentwaters fishing and tourism industry. This would also effect spawning habits of Salmon. http://www.wind-energy-the-facts.org/fr/environment/chapter-2-environmental-impacts/impacts-on-benthos-and-fish.html. Thank you
I should of sent this link also when I emailed you the other day. The windfarms are said to produce 10% of our energy. However usually only 1/3 rd of the turbines are actually working. For every mile out into Lake Michigan that the turbines are placed they lose the ability to transfer the energy efficiently. This makes the project not only a waste of tax payer dollars, but also hurts our fishing and tourism industry and lessens the amount of potential buyers in the areas where farms are placed. This brings me to my next point. The windfarms themselves arent the huge moneymakers but heres what is: the power transmission lines. This link will show how DTE and other companies make a huge 72% profit. I’m truely bothered how these companies and the current political agenda of has taken advantage of the people and their goodwill and stewardship of our country and state.

Dear Dan,
After reading your recent article about green energy, jobs for Michigan, and proposed wind energy projects – I was intrigued. You clearly expressed a thoughtful approach to this topic. While I am a Michigan property owner, I am a non-resident. Therefore, I cannot vote for you – but since I pay a good deal of property and school taxes – and support Michigan’s local economy several months a year – I thought you should hear my thoughts on wind energy. I have been researching this topic for several days after recently hearing of the AEGIR project. It seems as if there needs to be a slow and cautious approach to this. There are lots of questions, other projects that have been completed to be studied, and the fragility of the great lakes to be considered (I grew up during the Lake Erie crisis). Thanks for taking the time necessary to understand all the complexities of this issue. Nina Jordan, Pentwater (Texas resident during rest of year)
