Why is it that those we elect to represent us too often see their jobs as just telling us what’s going on in Lansing?

This campaign – and this site – are premised on the idea that the primary responsibility of a representative, whether Republican or Democrat, is to represent the interests of his or her constituents.

While I’m calling this the New Politics, it’s really an idea that goes back as far as democracy itself. Whether it’s the public square or an Internet blog, we need the free exchange of views in order to make democracy work – and to ensure our representatives are worthy of their titles.
